Session 3: Chipmunks can swim

There is never a lack of amusing stories to tell after spending a summer at camp.

This week, a friend of mine managed to catch a chipmunk in a garbage can and then proceeded to take it on a ride in a paddleboat. And this is how we learned that chipmunks can swim.

We also caught another chipmunk last night, using a chip, a plastic bin and some twine. We left it in the assistant director's room.

It's fun being a little bit older at camp and understanding that you can still do some ridiculous things without getting in trouble.

Something to celebrate, on Monday I was helping the kayaking class do wet exits, which is where they must demonstrate that they can flip over a kayak and get out safely. It is important that everyone does this before they head out into the lake, however it can be quite scary for campers (and leaders). The kayaking class is quite big this week, and everyone but one had completed their wet exit, and the instructor called me over to tell me that the last camper did not want to do one. I explained to her that in order to remain in the class she had to do this, and just quickly realized she was extremely nervous.

I slipped into the water and stood beside her kayak, talking her through the process and explained that I would be standing right there and would assist her if she couldn't get out. She was still nervous, so I asked if I could pray with her. We did, and then I asked her if she had ever heard Philippians 4:13.

"For I can do all things through him who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:13

She smiled, and we did her wet exit, and yesterday she told me she is loving the class.

It continues to be unseasonably cold. The sun has been around, thank goodness, but it is still chilly.

I'm also quite tired, perhaps just because I haven't had a day off in a while, but also because we are reaching the bulk the of the summer, when the beginning is far behind us and the end is nowhere in sight. If you could pray for energy for myself and the rest of the staff, that would be lovely.
